Question: What if the shuttlecock is distorted/bent after a hit and the opponent misses? Whos point is it?
Answer:
Hi, thank you for your question.
If the shuttlecock is distorted/bent and your opponent misses, the point will be yours.
When a badminton rally is in progress, it doesn’t matter whether the shuttlecock loses its form half way through. Both parties have to play until one party loses a rally before changing the shuttle.
Replay if It’s a Casual Game
If you’re playing a social or casual game, rules can be flexible. When a rally is in progress and the shuttlecock becomes distorted and can’t fly straight after one of the players hit it.
Suggest to all parties to re-play the rally and go ahead if both parties agree.
Competition Rules
Of course, the official badminton rules do not allow this. Therefore, if you’re playing in a competition, inspect the shuttlecock before a rally is being played.
Should you find any possible damage to the shuttlecock, let the umpire know and request to change the shuttle.
This is because once the rally has started, you’ll need to play on until one party loses the rally.
Quality of Shuttlecocks Cause this Problem
High quality shuttlecocks shouldn’t have this problem. The most that can happen is some of the feathers might chip off.
If you realise that a particular brand and grade of shuttlecock is easily damaged (in the sense that it doesn’t fly straight after a player hits it), consider getting better quality shuttlecocks.
Shuttles I Use
A few of my favourite shuttlecocks are RSL Classic Tourney, PROTECH masterpiece, AEROPLANE Black Label and Victor Master No.2. These are decent price and quality shuttlecocks.
Of course I would say that Yonex produces the BEST shuttlecocks, but it’s also one of the most expensive.
