The shuttles were flying relatively slower at the Seoul Olympic Stadium. (click here to understand how shuttles can fly at different speeds in different countries).
Both sides found it very easy to defend against their opponents’ smashes. It was extremely difficult to get the shuttlecock onto the ground.
Eventually Lee Yong Dae started exchanging clears with the Taiwanese opponents.
We rarely see this in badminton doubles today!
Both sides were tired and not motivated to attack because neither side could produce the powerful shots they wanted.
Lee Chong Wei (MAS) v Kenichi Tago (JPN)
Category: Men’s Singles
Winner: Lee Chong Wei
Score: 21-18 21-17
Tian Qing/Zhao Yun Lei (CHN) v Miyuki Maeda/Satoko Suetsuna (JPN)
Category: Women’s Doubles
Winner: Tian Qing/Zhao Yun Lei
Score: 21-16 21-18
Lin Dan (CHN) v Jan O Jorgensen (DEN)
Category: Men’s Singles
Winner: Lin Dan
Score: 21-13 8-21 21-15
Super Dan was literally toying around in this match. He tried several fancy and ambitious shots against Jorgensen.
The Victor Korea Open 2012 was Jorgensen’s first tournament after a long break. He suffered a bad year in 2011 because he had a heart problem which forced him out for a while. Besides that, his mother passed away not long after he had the injury.
