Question: When moving from footwork base to the net, which foot moves first? Assuming the player is right handed.

Answer:
Hi Said,

If you are right handed, your “ready position” (at your base) should have your left foot behind, while your right foot in front.

The key to explosive badminton footwork is to ‘tip feet’. This means that you should try to keep the back of your feet off the ground most of the time.

Use the tip of your feet and toes to accelerate. By doing this you’ll be able to move faster.

To answer your question, it’s important to understand the basics of badminton footwork.

Steps for Moving Efficiently

During a badminton ready position, stand on the tip of your feet.

If you want to move to the left hand side of the net, use the toes of your right foot to push yourself to the front.

If you want to move to the right hand side of the net, use the toes of your left foot to push yourself to the net.

Since you are right handed, your right foot should always move in front when you take the shuttle.

More specifically, you’ll need to move your right foot first since it’s at the back. Bring your right foot to the front when you get a net shot.
